Big mountain adventures in the Scottish Highlands
Skyline Scotland is a celebration of mountain running in one of the most dramatic landscapes in the UK. Set in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, the event brings together challenging mountain races, technical terrain and a community united by a love of running in wild places.
Here, the mountains shape the experience. Steep climbs, rugged ridgelines, rocky descents and unpredictable Highland weather make for racing that demands both physical strength and the ability to adapt. Every route offers its own challenge, with the landscape playing as much a part in the experience as the distance itself.
Whether taking on a long-distance mountain ultra or discovering the terrain over a shorter course, Skyline Scotland offers an opportunity to experience the Highlands on foot, pushing personal limits in a setting that is anything but ordinary.
A history of Skyline Scotland
Founded by Shane Ohly and Ourea Events in 2015, Skyline Scotland was created to showcase the scale, technicality and adventure of mountain running in the Scottish Highlands. From the beginning, the event offered something different: challenging mountain races through rugged terrain, attracting runners looking to test themselves in some of the UK's most demanding landscapes.
Under Ourea Events, Skyline Scotland established itself as a distinctive fixture in the UK mountain-running calendar, building a reputation for technical courses, spectacular Highland surroundings and a community of runners drawn to the challenge of racing in the mountains.
In 2026, following the administration of Ourea Events, Skyline Scotland entered a new chapter. The event joined the UTMB World Series, with Shane Ohly remaining involved as a consultant to support the transition and help carry its legacy forward.
A new chapter with UTMB World Series
In 2027, Skyline Scotland enters a new chapter as part of the UTMB World Series, joining a global community of trail-running events while retaining the character that has made it distinctive.
The partnership brings Skyline Scotland into an international series of mountain and trail-running events, connecting runners in the Highlands with a wider community of athletes and adventures around the world.
But the foundations remain the same: challenging mountain routes, an unmistakable Scottish setting and an event shaped by its landscape and community.
For runners returning to Skyline Scotland, 2027 is an opportunity to experience a familiar event as it begins its next chapter. For those discovering it for the first time, it is an invitation to take on the Highlands.
